Midnight: Season 1 update

Let's get the current progress info-dumped first up:

Mythic 6/9, and currently working on Crown of the Cosmos (the Alleria fight).

And in week 1 of mythic we killed Chimaerus, and earned the guild's 2nd, and my first, Hall of Fame kill! 😄

I was Panda at the time...
I was Panda at the time...

However...

I have since learnt that the title is sadly tied to the guild achievement, so if the guild ever disbands, or I ever leave, then I'll lose the title, despite being present for the HoF kill itself!?

A bit shitty IMO, and having earnt it I think it should be a permanent title, but Blizzard seemingly don't agree.

🤷‍♂️

With that in mind it'll obviously be my permanent title on my hunter until I can no longer use it, if ever!

Anyway, this season for Hunters has been a real mixed bag so far...

Beast Mastery

Not a great season for my main spec so far.

On overall damage across the tier, BM is currently the worst spec in the entire game. I think the main issue with this tier is the encounter design is terrible for BM. There's no pure Single Target fight in Mythic, and on the closest thing to that, Vorasius, BM's output is barely above mid. Overall it's sitting 4th worst on straight boss damage, which traditionally has been a niche it has been one of the better specs for.

The spec is seeing another buff, this time 4% come reset, but it still won't be anywhere near enough to compensate or make it competitive on the majority of fights this tier.

Survival

Oh SV is having a whale of a time this tier. Its currently the best hunter spec to play in both raid and m+, 3rd best DPS spec overall on general damage, with strong burst, good consistency and pretty tanky with its innate 6% damage reduction over the two ranged specs.

It's mainly excelling on add padding, and while its boss damage is mid, it's still light years ahead of the ranged specs in that regard.

Marksmanship

Man, where to start with this rollercoaster?

MM started this tier in a very strong position. It had good burst, consistent 2-8 target cleave, and was miles head of every other spec on certain fights, especially the Vanguard fight, which is a 3 boss fight with consistent 2 target cleave. It was playing well, and had good damage, but that should have been a warning sign...

12.0.5

The first patch of the expansion saw Blizzard, for reasons only they know, to take it upon themselves to completely rework a well-functioning spec, change its talent tree, and royally fuck it up.

MM went from being one of the strongest specs in the game to one of the worst, literally overnight.

Whilst on Vanguard it still is... OK, on every other fight It's just flat out awful, especially in comparison to its previous incarnation.

It also has had to change hero talent tree from Sentinel (which is only useful on Vanguard), to Dark Ranger, which in and of itself is just terribly janky to play.

So Hunter isn't having the best season overall, and with it I've changed races a few times in order to best match what I thought was going to be my main spec.

Because Dwarf and Tauren had the double-dipping bug finally fixed (pets would benefit twice from the +crit racial of both races), other races are now seen as best.

For BM and SV, mainly because both use Pack Leader, Pandaren, Mechagnome and Orc are the top 3 races, whilst for MM it's Orc then Dwarf & Tauren.

I started the season as Haranir, but it ended up being awful for damage, so I went Panda. Then went Dwarf when I thought I would be maining MM, but then the patch came and killed it.

So now I'm Dwarf still, but mulling over either Gnome or Orc, because I hate looking at my dwarf.

Gnome is slightly worse DPS (-300) and Orc is slightly better (+300), but requires a faction change and having to rejoin the guild as that particular bug still hasn't been fixed, where faction changing kicks you out of your CROSS-FACTION guild...

🤦‍♂️
